We‘re a Badass Movement and Wellness Fam, and we’ve created a yoga challenge based around Satya.
Satya means “truthfulness in all things”, and is one of the yamas from Patanjali’s 8 Limbs of Yoga.
We feel that Satya is heart-based AND fierce! It applies to so many dimensions of our lives. In yoga, we practice asana to tame the strands of the mind so we can address the ethical aspect of Satya.
Because it is an abstract concept, we made a list of pose suggestions for you, but feel free to take it in your own poetic direction. (Examples of entries that aren’t pose-based are: snaps of your yoga environment, elements of personal ritual during practice, or what reminds you to apply the philosophy of yoga ‘off the mat’). It is really up to you, and we can’t wait to see your entries!
Day 1 - Mental Satya - Honesty in our thinking What does #Satya mean in terms of the mind? It means observing and staying detached from the script that our mind loves to write stories about, its favorite topic of “I”, “me”, and “mine”. Staying focused, resisting the addiction we have to distraction and worry.
Which poses or aspects of your practice bring you mental clarity?Day 2 - Inner Satya - Spiritual TruthTaking responsibility for yourself and your choices is a form of #Satya. Being accountable for your words and actions, and conducting yourself in alignment with your words. Not pretending to be someone you are not.
Which poses, is aspects of your practice make you feel the most in touch with your authentic self?Day 3 - Embodied Satya Recognizing the capabilities of our bodies is #Satya. Both in terms of self-care, and taking breaks and allowing ourselves rest when we need it; as well as giving ourselves a nudge to step it up when we could be moving more often, or more strenuously than we have been.
How do YOU bring heat to the mat, while staying balanced and gentle with your precious self at the same time?
Day 4 - Emotional SatyaFeelings themselves aren’t necessarily the truth, but acknowledging that we experience them is #Satya. Honoring your emotional truth means accepting our feelings so we can bravely confront our triggers with presence, in order to heal them.
Which poses or aspects of your practice connect you to your emotional truth?Day 5 - Social SatyaWe are all One. Being honest in our dealings with others, and treating all people with compassion is #Satya. It means accepting them for who they are, and not expecting them to change to suit our wants and needs. Disengaging from toxicity and drama in our social sphere, and surrounding ourselves with loving and supportive people. Supporting social justice and human rights.
What does truth in #Oneness mean to you?
